Barbados Media Executive Dr. Allyson Leacock

The Launch event is to take place at the Caenwood Auditorium, CPTC, 37 Arnold Road in Kingston at 6 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday October 26. Members of the public are expected to attend the event which will also be addressed by the Minister of Information, Senator the Hon. Burchell Whiteman, the Executive Chairman of Mediamix Limited, Mr. Lennie Little-White and CPTC Chairman, Dr Hopeton Dunn.
Dr Leacock’s address is expected to reflect on the critical role of media in the promotion of both culture and education within the Caribbean region. She is also expected to underline the keen interest of Caribbean media institutions in expanded professional and academic training opportunities, given the rapid growth of new media institutions and technologies in an increasingly competitive global environment.
Dr Leacock was a former Director of Culture for Barbados, before being appointed General Manager of CBC in March 2003. A broadcaster and media executive by career background, she served as News Anchor at CBC, rising to Assistant Programme Manager and later General Manager.
Dr Leacock completed undergraduate studies with First Class Honours at Sterling University in the United Kingdom. She went on to complete her Master and Doctoral degrees at Concordia University in Canada, specializing in Educational Technology.
She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Media Corporation, (CMC) and of the Board of World Cup Barbados. Dr Leacock also serves as a member of the National UNESCO Commission of Barbados, and is the Chairperson of the CARICOM Regional Committee on Culture. The launch of MTI will signal expanded training opportunities for media specialists, creative artistes and the wider public. As the successor institution to the CPTC’s Training Department, the MTI is already offering Diploma and Certificate courses in Video Production, Digital Design and Multimedia Production and in Voice and Speech Communication, among others. |
